5 Gym Wall Padding Safety Standards Infographic

Head injury prevention is another critical consideration. Wall padding should meet head injury criterion (HIC) standards, with a required HIC of less than 1000 to reduce the risk of severe head trauma. Fire safety is equally important. Class A wall padding provides the highest fire protection by minimizing flame spread and smoke production, which is especially important in recreational spaces. Standard wall padding typically comes in 2’x6′ panels, but custom sizes are available to accommodate obstacles like outlets and doors. Proper installation is essential to maintain safety. Industry standards require a maximum 4-inch gap between the bottom of the padding and the floor, reducing injury risks caused by exposed surfaces.
